Questar III at Work to Lower Capital Region Illiteracy Rate

Troy, NY (March 29, 2006) — One out of five people living in the Capital Region is functionally illiterate*. As Tech Valley gears up for the 21st Century, are we leaving our most vulnerable citizens behind?

Training a skilled workforce for the Capital Region is Questar III’s mission. For nearly three decades, Questar III has been providing adult education classes in Rensselaer, Columbia, and Greene counties.

It doesn’t matter whether a student has recently dropped out of school or is returning after many years. Age 16 or 60, Questar III has services to fit the ever-increasing population of adult learners.

Our programs include:

·          Adult Basic Education for beginning students.

·          Classes to prepare for the New York State General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) exam.

·          Classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (E.S.O.L.).

·          Family literacy.

·          Job search and employment skills.

·          The External Degree Program, helping qualified students earn a diploma from a local high school.

·          Day and evening classes, year-round programs, and a dedicated staff of adult educators!
